Speech 143 Practice Log
Please keep a log of your speech rehearsals (due on date of speech). Be honest because
you will gain nothing from wishful thinking! I have provided a couple of examples. You can
create this format on a sheet of lined paper.

Speech 143 Personal Journal Guide
In your Personal Journal you will reflect on your performance in the weekly symposium, in addition to your solo speech. Type a one-page, minimum, description of your oral presentations (preparation and delivery) and how you felt about them (note the word count at the bottom of the entry). Assess your presentations according to the following criteria:
Preparation
Outline and notes
Research, when relevant
Rehearsal
Delivery
Composure and enthusiasm
Audience contact and sincerity
Volume, inflection, and pace of delivery
Addressing the assignment
A clear main point
Appropriate and sufficient support within the allotted time
Effective use of language (appropriate, precise, grammatically correct)
Strong beginning and end
Visual aids/props, when appropriate
Identify your strong and weak points and suggest ways you might improve on the weak points. Mention any success strategies that you have discovered. At the end of each entry, provide a subjective evaluation of your progress. Do you feel that public speaking is becoming easier or more pleasurable? Why or why not?
You may want to use the following format:
Part I: Description of weekly presentations
Part II: Subjective response to each of the presentations
Part III: Objective assessment, referring to criteria listed above
Part IV: Your strong and weak points and suggestions for improving weak points
Part V: Success strategies
Part VI: Subjective evaluation of progress: Is public speaking becoming easier or more pleasurable? Why or why not?
Please type your entries and double-space them, using a 12-point font. Don't forget to include the word count.
